Sometimes I am here to make sure my blog hasn’t been compromised and then realize: well, I should publish something since my blog is fine and I am now logged in. Posting something will help me sleep. The twitter thing below will fill you in on the rest of tonight. Look over there. People are talking about Kandinsky.
Houston and Essex
This $10 Westclox wall clock has a tick-tock from hell so I’m going to have to rip out the second hand.
Update: I took the second hand out and it barely had any effect on the tick tock noise. Considering a note of censure.
The Wood Wins
I go out and shoot a hundred pictures and the best one is a tree trunk in central park. Typical. I saw some raccoons too.
The Ghost at KGB
Some bars are more photogenic than others.
Astor Row in Harlem
I had the pleasure of working in one of these houses the other day. The entire block has a great history. Kevin is negotiating a coffee run here or something.
An Empty Train Is Like Empty Calories
When the Sun Goes Down at Coney
Guy on the fishing wharf says it’s all cool. Sardines are good for you.
Another Night Owl
I watched a slow Spanish movie from 1973 called Spirit of the Beehive. With notes of Antonioni and shot toward the end of Franco’s reign, it’s a meditative allegorical film eliciting all sorts of feelings about growing up in a repressive, spiritually dead environment. The lead, Ana Torrent, is still acting in movies today. The director, Victor Erice, has only made three feature-length movies in his career. I reckon he stares out the window a lot these days.
Manufactured Posts
Sorry I’ve been absent. Not one but several of the people I consider inspirations have left me in the dust. Some were bloggers, some were friends, some were martians from pluto. This is really no excuse. I hold the carrot in front of my own face and I still have a long music post stewing.
I found thoughtful inspiration in the work of Edward Burtynsky of the movie Manufactured Landscapes. Burtynsky’s work today focuses on places that have been severely slanted by human endeavor whereas he started as a nature photographer. Right up my alley. Here are some photos I took from Thursday. Familiar territory.
On the Onramp
This music post is kicking my ass. I should write a book.
Empty Bench, Usually Full
I’m working on a long post about music. Woohoo!
Incredible Moviemaking
I tweeted this or something but Coraline must be seen if you like movies (and the website is pretty good too). Scouts honor.
