Chalkhead Mentalities

chalkheads, night

If you’ve been following Glenn Greenwald, you don’t need to read this, but if you haven’t, it’s a must-read. Beginning with Eisenhower’s warnings about the military industrial complex to the Bush Administration’s admittance to phone-tapping (when Greenwald started blogging) to the current anti-Wikileaks campaign, through the present-day campaigns against Wikileaks, Glennzilla traces frightening trends that I’m disappointed more people aren’t talking about. Cones, Got Yer Cones

cones east river, NYC
I had a larger cone in my bedroom as a kid for years. I have no idea where it came from other than I know I brought it home one day because it was in the middle of nowhere guarding nothing. It was used as a tee for T-ball sometimes and the top was cracked. I still remember looking at the cone and wondering how to get rid of it. Someone threw it out eventually but it wasn’t me. Probably Mom. I have stuff like cones now that I should throw out.

Fire on 109th Street

Hook and ladder fire truck outside a fire on 109 St, NYC, Jan 2, 2011
This happened on January 2nd of this year. It was a while since I last emptied out the photos from my camera. The fire was out within 20 minutes and it looks like damage was mostly limited to one or two rooms. Here’s to NYC’s Bravest!

On another note, I setup a friend’s new business with a WordPress website. (So far, we’re using the default theme design but we’ll be doing a redesign at some point.) If you need a dog walker or a cat sitter in Essex County, New Jersey, check out 4 Paws Pet Services!

Snows of 2010 and 2011

Just in time for 60° F. weather on Friday and probably the last melting of New York’s winter (fingers crossed), here’s a gallery of night snow images. None are particularly great but you get the idea. Obviously, the most dramatic are the first batch from post-Christmas blizzard. Despite some glitches, New York continued to function fairly well after around 57 inches fell this season. I think I got the dates right for the others but the date stamp on my camera got messed up after the batteries died at one point.
